Please forgive me in advance for this blog, but I just can’t help myself. What would you get if you pumped an insanely amount of Human Growth Hormones into LADY GAGA and then adorned her with two tons of make-up and extra robust fake hair?? For me the answer is very evident, and that would be DEE SNIDER from the great TWISTED SISTER! Am I not right here? Take a look at the below photos and you be the judge.
OK, OK maybe I am wrong about that, but can’t we atleast agree that we all want Lady Gaga to keep her makeup on . . . I mean look at this . . . or, on second thought, don’t . . .
Ok enough about GAG ga . . . now, let’s get back to video surfing! I recently discovered a new video from NYC based singer/songwriter Tania Mashay and her cover of the Kings of Leon emotional rock song Use Somebody. Great stuff, but watch and decide for yourself . . .
My favorite LED ZEPPELIN song is BABE I’M GONNA LEAVE YOU, so I decided to share some of the history of the song as well as several of the better performances of the song available on YouTube.
JOAN BAEZ: While written by ANNE BREDON in the late 1950s as a folk song, BABE I’M GONNA LEAVE YOU was first famously recorded by JOAN BAEZ and released on her 1962 album JOAN BAEZ IN CONCERT, PART 1. This is not one of my favorite versions, but it apparently inspired Led Zeppelin so it can’t be all bad.
LED ZEPPELIN: Led Zeppelin recorded and included the song on their 1969 debut album Led Zeppelin. The band was inspired to cover the song after hearing Baez’s version, but clearly took the song in a great new direction and created one of the all-time great rock songs. Interestingly, Led Zeppelin only played this song live at concerts on their 1969 concert tours.
GREAT WHITE: Great White covered the song during some of their live performances. While it’s a pretty good cover, for me they’re trying to sound too much like Led Zeppelin and don’t make it their own at all. But, listen for youself, and let me know what you think.
P!NK: Pink covered the song during some of her live performances. While the sound quality in this video isn’t the greatest, I really like Pinks’ cover. Her strong powerful voice is really able to create the intensity and passion so essential to the song. But, listen for youself, and let me know what you think.
TANIA MASHAY: This next cover is a recently uploaded video from Tania Mashay. While she is still a relative unknown in the Rock scene, her version is very good and definately worth viewing. She has a strong soulful voice that I believe works very well with this song. Again though, listen for youself, and let me know what you think.
DORO PESCH: This next version is from Doro Pesch, sometimes referred to as the “Queen of Metal”, who has a long history in metal. She belts out an intense version of the song with a strong metal edge. Some parts I thought were quite good, while others were way over the top for me personally. Again though, listen for youself, and let me know what you think.
